Homeless Veteran on Christmas

This is a letter that was sent to several politicians, oversite, and Secretary Denis McDonough:

“A 100% Disabled Veteran, paraplegic, female, senior citizen, was forced to sleep outside in the cold in front of the Veteran Administration Hospital for Disabled Veterans at a National Home on Christmas Eve and on Christmas night. I write to you because this is a National Home and not a “California” issue. We have attempted to reach Congressman Brad Sherman about this and his office does not answer. This matter touches on “Constitution,” because the Civil Rights of this once protected class, “Veterans” are being violated. This matter touches on “Taxes,” because the entire country feeds the 1.3-billion-dollar budget for this National Home to provide service and Veterans are being placed into the kennel-like conditions of an outdoor encampment without toilet, water, and ADA required facilities.. I expect that you will put us off to our zip code but you must be informed; the bullets in war do not require a zip code. Please reach out to your peers and help us expose this tragedy as soon as possible. I will copy and paste these words onto another email that will go to Brad Sherman and to Ted Lieu who are responsible for allowing this worst government land-scandal in U.S. history. 
 
Please let me know when either (or both) of you have forwarded this information to Congressman Sherman.”

After this story got out, there was a meeting between Melody, Director Merchant, Rebecca Ricci and Omar from Village For Vets a non profit that sent Melody to a Best Western 20+ miles away, and if that wasn’t bad enough. Melody told us that soon after the room she was booked doesn’t have a restroom she can use… I believe Village For Vets needs an AUDIT ASAP! THIS IS WHY WE MUST REMOVE THIRD PARTIES AND HUD VASH OFF WEST LOS ANGELES VA’ SOLDIERS’ HOME.
Here is a resolution to stop the corruption keeping Los Angeles being the Nation’s’ Capital of Veteran homelessness.

Los Angeles is the Nation’s Capital of Veteran homelessness and suicide. I am sharing this to bring your immediate attention to a series of critical issues affecting the National Soldiers’ Home wherein the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center is located.

The National Soldiers’ Home is deed-restricted over 900 acres of Federal land donated in 1888 to be nothing but a HOME for disabled and homeless Veterans.

The points outlined below reflect the people’s deep concern and urgent call to action:

1. ENFORCE the deed-restricted land use mandates accepted and agreed to by the Federal government, specifically for the federal U.S. government to permanently maintain the land as a Home for disabled, homeless, and unemployed Veterans.

2. ENFORCE the “Valentini v. Shinseki” Federal Court Order to evict the third party land users off the National Soldiers’ Home.

3. CEASE OPERATION of HUD-VASH program at the National Soldiers’ Home because that program is for private landlords in the community, whereas Congress has appropriated and Taxpayers have already funded the Department of Veteran Affairs to develop and operate the housing programs in accordance with the DEEDS for over 136 years.

4. RESTORE Congressionally Chartered Veteran Service Organizations longstanding advocacy resolving against the illegal land use at the National Soldiers’ Home that is causing Veteran Homelessness.

5. RESUME enforcement, investigation, and prosecution of criminal violations of Federal Law at the National Soldiers’ Home.

In support of these points, I advocate for a Congressional Inquiry to review these demands and declarations to ensure justice and proper care for our Veterans.
